The lawmakers, who appreciated the steps so far taken by the Federal Government to contain the problems of herdsmen/farmers clashes in the country, specifically tasked community leaders (including governors) “to be careful when making statements on these ugly incidences.”

Chairman of the Forum, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who read the communiqué at the end of the lawmakers meeting, restated their resolve “to continue their complete support for President Muhammadu Buhari in order to bring about even development to all sections of the country.”

Adamu said that members of the Forum further agreed to work assiduously to enact laws and amend existing ones when and where necessary in order to promote the interest of Northern Nigeria in particular and Nigeria in general.

He added that they noted specially the steps taken by the government to wipe out incidences of insurgency and are hopeful that in no distant time, “we shall say bye-bye to the problem of insurgency.”

On the tagging of every herdsman as Fulani, the Nasarawa-born lawmaker said, “We have tried to kill the idea that every herdsman is Fulani. I am a farmer but I am not Fulani by birth. It is very very wrong to say that everybody you find with a cow is Fulani.”

He recalled that when Chief Olu Falae was kidnapped the news went round that the kidnappers were Fulani, noting that when those responsible for kidnapping the elder statesman were eventually arrested, it was discovered that they were not Fulani.

Adamu, who said he saw a lot of Yoruba cattle rearers when he traveled to the western part of the country, insisted that a cattle rearing is no longer the exclusive preserve of the Fulani.

Noting that there are some groups in the South-East geopolitical zone that have warned Fulani people to leave their part of the country, he declared: “if people from the North say the same thing of people from the south East, we wonder where it will lead the country.”

B.R.E.A.K.I.N.G N.E.W.S!!! FULANI MEN CAUSE ACCIDENT ALONG LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY, KILLING 13 PEOPLE

The Lagos state Police Command has called on those whose relatives are missing to come forward for possible identification of no fewer than 13 people who were reportedly killed in a fire incident at the Lotto area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Punch had earlier reported that a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, went up in flames in Ogun state on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of today at Loto bus-stop, Mowe, area of the state

The tanker belonging to Total Nigeria Plc had skidded off the road in an attempt to avoid crashing into a herd of cows walking on the expressway.

In the process, four of the cows were killed and some of the fuel spilled on the road and into the gutter, before the tanker crashed before it went up in flames.

The herdsmen fled the scene immediately as residents attempted to mob them.

The Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi has confirmed the incident stating that, “The road was soaked with fuel after the tanker fell.

The police and the fire service men were trying to neutralise the power of the petrol when fire broke out. The fire service truck, which was on duty, was the first to be burnt.

Four other persons were injured in the inferno, including an official of the Ogun State Fire Service, identified as Ayodele Adetayo.

The injured victims were said to have been rushed to private hospitals before being transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

Police officers attached to the Redemption Camp division were said to have removed the dead cows, and contacted Total to send another truck for fuel transfer.

Some residents came out and started scooping the fuel spilled into the gutter when a Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, which had a burst tire drove on its rim and ignited a fire.

Fire then engulfed an 18-seater bus driving behind it, two Hilux vans, a Dangote truck and a fire service truck, which was rounding off operation.

The PPRO further added that, “No fewer than 13 people were burnt beyond recognition. About five vehicles were also burnt.

“We urge those whose relatives are missing to come forward for possible identification because for now we cannot recognise anybody,”Adejobi added

Following the incessant killings by the Fulani Herdsmen, a group of Niger Delta agitator, under the aegis of Concerned Militant Leaders (CML), has said it would declare war on Fulani herdsmen after two weeks, if they fail to leave the South-East and South-South states.

The group in a statement made available to Sunnews yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following recent attacks and killings of innocent people, particularly in the South- East.

Spokesperson of the group, simply known as General Ben, demanded that Federal Government should within the 14 days deadline, tell Nigerians who the Fulani herdsmen are, otherwise, the spate of kidnapping and killing of the “so-called herdsmen,” would be unprecedented.

Ben said the group had waited patiently to see Federal Government’s reaction to the gruesome murder of innocent Nigerians, with emphasis on the recent attack on a community in Enugu State, expressing disappointment that government had not demonstrated genuine commitment to checkmate activities of the herdsmen.
He declared: “After two weeks, starting from today, Tuesday, May 3, we are going to search for Fulani herdsmen. Since Federal Government cannot tell us who they are up till now, we are going to look for them.

The CML spokesperson described the attacks as provocative and challenging, threatening that they would take their pound of flesh at the appropriate time.

“The Fulani herdsmen have indirectly challenged us, asking us what can we do. But, we promise them that we will not allow them to go without taking revenge. It is an insult and we will give them back,” he vowed.

D.P.O.AND OTHER 30 PEOPLE KILLED BY FULANI HERDSMEN IN ADAMAWA STATE.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Vunokilang Police Station in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State was among the 30 people killed in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Sunday morning .

Reports from the area revealed that the suspected herdsmen raided four villages: Demsare, Wunamokoh, Dikajam and Taboungo in what is believed to be a vengeance mission over an existing feud with farmers in the area.

Several houses and other property in the villages were also burnt in the attack.

The DPO, Okozie Okereofor, a Chief Superintendent of Police, who was deployed to the state about two months ago, was said to have been ambushed when he was leading police officers to the disputed area. He was killed in the eventual shootout with his assailants.

The corpse of the slain police officer and the others killed is currently deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola.

The Police in Adamawa have confirmed the killing of Mr. Okereofor.

“The DPO and his team were attacked while on official duty in the affected villages where he was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen,” the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, Othman Abubakar, said.

“Report at my disposal indicated that the attackers looted foodstuff and livestock of the villagers before setting the villages ablaze.   “The suspected Fulani herdsmen raided four villages in Girei local Government area on Sunday morning around 5:30 a.m. killing scores including the late DPO.”

When a PREMIUM TIMES reporter and other journalists visited the Federal Medical Centre on Sunday, some of the survivors of the attack were seen receiving treatment.

However, a nurse on duty said the management of the hospital issued a directive that no journalist should be allowed into the wards.

Commenting on the attack, the Acting Brigade Commander of the 23 Armored Bridgade, Yola, Aba Poopola, confirmed that the Fulani herdsmen had problems with the affected areas.

He said “everything is under control” as he has deployed his officers to the area to maintain law and order.

The attack is different from the Boko Haram terrorist attacks in Adamawa and other north-eastern states that have caused the death of about 25,000 people since it began in 2010.

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI RETURNS THE CONTROVERSIAL 2016 BUDGET THIRD TIME TO N.A.S.S

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly returned the controversial 2016 budget to the National Assembly for the third time. The budget which has been an issue of serious debate in the past few months, was said to have been returned to the lawmakers on Tuesday, May 3, after it emerged that the president was still unhappy with some of its contents. The 2016 appropriation bill was returned for further legislative work as principal officers and members of the review committee from both legislative chambers met for about two hours on Tuesday evening. A source close to the committee revealed that the president refused to touch the budget after it was submitted to him because there were still issues he was not comfortable with.

“The budget got to the State House at about 1.10am and Mr. President went through it early this morning and still had some issues with some of the figures. I can not tell you exactly what it was but I think the insertions made by the lawmakers were not significantly altered. “You know the lawmakers had moved some allocations for key projects that are dear to the president to other areas especially to their constituency projects. Of course, they have changed some but I believe Mr. President is not satisfied with the reconciliation they made. I think this is one of the reasons why it was returned,” the anonymous source revealed. Speaking further, the impeccable source said that the president would assent to the budget on Wednesday, May 4, only if the lawmakers make all the corrections and transmit the document to him tonight. According to him: “I can assure you, Mr. President is desirous to sign the budget because he is aware and has acknowledged that Nigerians are going through hardship. “He is also concerned so if the budget is cleaned up this night and sent to him, he will sign it as soon as possible.
