U.N.B.E.L.I.E.V.A.B.L.E ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT DISCOVERS SIX FULANI HERDSMEN CAMP IN THE STATE

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has said that the aerial surveillance of communities embarked upon by his administration to check criminal activities and excesses of armed Fulani herdsmen has started to pay off.
Apart from helping security operatives to fish out criminals in their hideouts, Obiano disclosed that six camps of herdsmen located in boundary communities in the state have been located through aerial surveillance. The findings, he said, have prompted his administration to liaise with the leadership of the Fulani community to impress on the herdsmen to keep to the grazing terms the state government reached with term.
The governor assured the people of the state of maximum protection of their lives and property, adding that his administration has been collaborating with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in fighting crime in the state, including the danger posed by possible Fulani herdsmen’s attacks on communities in the state.
He defended the incorporation, in the security arrangement of the state, of aerial surveillance of the state and its boundary communities using helicopters, noting that the exercise has gone a long way in further assuring the people of the preparedness of his administration to safeguard lives and property in Anambra State.
The arrangement, according to the governor, is primarily aimed at identifying major Fulani herdsmen’s settlements, other crime spots and security challenges in and around the state.
Governor Obiano pointed out that through such exercise, criminals’ dens and or other trouble spots, which could not easily be reached by land because of their remote locations, would be discovered and appropriate actions taken to preempt any criminal activities that might come from such locations.
That was how six Hausa/Fulani camps were identified in the state, most of them close to the boundaries, he stated.
The governor said his administration has commissioned the state chapter of the Miyetti Allah to coordinate the activities of the Fulani cattle breeders by visiting the camps to intimate them on the agreed modus operandi for grazing in the state.
This agreement, he explained, was developed by a committee he setup in the early life of his administration.
Under the deal, Fulani herdsmen are to pay full compensation when their cows destroy farmers’ crops or property belonging to the host communities, while the communities will pay compensation for any cow they wrongly kill.
He also said the group has been charged to warn the herdsmen that none of them should carry AK-47 rifles, guns and or/any other dangerous weapons, adding that any body found with such weapons will face due prosecution.
Obiano noted that the agreement, which is in operation in the state, has been sustaining the peace between Ndi Anambra and the herdsmen, stressing that “so far, both parties have kept to their side of the bargain.”
While debunking the rumour of an attack on Ogbunike community last week by the herdsmen, Governor Obiano urged Ndi Anambra to desist from peddling reports capable of inciting the people into violence.
Meanwhile, in a display of the spirit of brotherhood, Obiano has visited the victims of the recent Fulani herdsmen’s invasion of Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to sympathize and commiserate with them.
The visit, which was devoid of the usual media blitz and speeches, according to political observers, marked Governor Obiano out as a “sympathetic brother-leader.”

The Banks are threatening to shutdown its operations in the metropolis should the government not rescind its decidion to impose on them what it termed ‘’City Bank Permit Operations License”.

According to a Bank Manager of one of the banks operating in the city, Mr Andrew, who spoke to our correspondent, The issue of over-taxtion of financial establishments and banks in the state has gone beyond keeping quiet. Since the incumbent government came into power, its been one payment after another. We pay for virtually every project undertaken in Awka by this administration. Even the current flyovers under construction in Awka is being financed by all the banks in Awka under what we term “Agreement consent under Duress”. What pains us the most is that the governor was once in our shoes and as a banker, we expect him to understand our plight and give us some level playing ground that will be beneficial to us as business operators.”



Asked what their next line of action will be if the Government goes ahead with its City Bank Permit Operations Licenses; Mr Andrew responded that all the commercial banks, MFBs, Mortgage homes and finance houses operating in the state’s capital city have reached an agreement to shut down its operations in the town to press down home its demands. We have seen enough. If we continue to keep mute and not speak out, we will die in business; the manager added.

Also, One of the managers of a micro-finance bank in a suburb of awka metropolis, Nice Micro-finance bank Nise also lamented that they might be thrown out of business if the imposition of tax continues. A Newspaper in the United Kingdom, UK, ‘The Mail Daily’ , has on Sunday, May 15, published a report revealing how the former Governor of Rivers State and current Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, looted Nigeria’s treasury.
The report added, that President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘fantastically corrupt” friend, spent over $140 million on the president’s 2015 campaign and has been accused of stealing £500 million.
“But although, Buhari is seen by some as leading the battle against corruption, but worrying allegations swirl around one of his close allies,” the British Newspaper said.
“Rotimi Amaechi, who traveled with the president to the summit, is Nigeria’s transport minister and is said to have bankrolled Buhari’s presidential campaign.”
Recall, that Amaechi has been indicted by a judicial commission of inquiry in Rivers State for looting the treasury of the state, when he served as Governor for eight years.
However, Amaechi had denied the allegations of corruption and refused to appear before the judicial panel of inquiry to defend himself.
This revelation is coming, following a remark last week by UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, in which he described Nigeria as one of the most corrupt countries in the world, tagging the West African giant as “fantastically corrupt”.
Local media in Nigeria had tagged Amaechi the ATM of Buhari’s presidential campaign and his party the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Amaechi is praised by APC leaders for single-handedly funding the governorship campaigns of at least five APC governors, including that of former speaker, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
“Amaechi remains in his post despite being accused of misappropriating £338 million by a commission investigating the sale of state assets,” the UK Mail observed as it questioned Buhari’s sincerity in fighting corruption.
“Separately, Amaechi is accused of diverting £140 million of state funds into Buhari’s presidential campaign, with reports he paid for media, consultants and private jets.
“The allegations come as the president stands accused of enjoying a lavish lifestyle, while many millions suffer in poverty.
“A leaked draft budget for 2016 showed the Nigerian government earmarked £16 million for the refurbishment and maintenance of the president’s official residence, Aso Rock Guest House, in the capital Abuja.
“There was also a request for £13 million for building a VIP wing at a hospital used by families of the president and his ministerial team,” the paper noted.

Herdsmen Terrorism: FG Sneaks N940m Into The Budget For Grazing Reserves
The federal government has budgeted N940 million in the 2016 budget for the development of strategic grazing reserves to stem the tide of herdsmen and farmers clashes in the country.
This is contained in the breakdown of the budget by the minister of Budget and Planning, Udo Udoma on Thursday at the Presidential Villa.
It will be recalled that herdsmen and farmers clash has been on the front burner in the last few weeks and attempts by the National Assembly to debate on the grazing bill have been resisted by some cross section of Nigerians.
This is even as the federal government on Tuesday in the Senate Hearing on herdsmen/farmers clash, reaffirmed its plans to establish cattle ranches as lasting solution to the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in Nigeria.
However, the herdsmen, under the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, rejected the proposal of the government to establish cattle ranches but insisted on having grazing reserves and routes.
Udoma in his briefing listed several projects in pursuit of the nation’s goal of self – sufficiency / food security which includes N940m for the development of strategic grazing reserves.
There is, however, no provision in the same budget for rebuilding, resettling, and compensating the victims of Fulani Terrorist Herdsmen attack. The government according to one of the victims who spoke to IPN is interested only in compensating the Fulani for behaving badly even at the expense of the victims.

EKITI State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC) were playing Nigerians Advanced Fee Fraud with the removal of fuel subsidy and increment of pump price from N86.50 to N145 per litre, describing the increment as wickedness taken too far.
“Was the federal government paying up to N58.50 as subsidy on one litre of petrol before now?” Mr. Fayose asked.

Governor Fayose, who reiterated his call on Nigerians, especially the labour movement to resist what he called “this wicked act of President Buhari and his party”, added that; “those who opposed removal of fuel subsidy in 2012 and funded the Occupy Nigeria protest must not be allowed to get away with this imposition of hardship on Nigerians now that they are in power”.

He said labour unions, civil society organisations and other well-meaning Nigerians should stand up and be counted at this crucial time in the life of the common people of Nigeria, adding that “there is no justification for the increment at this period when government is not paying salaries regularly, Nigerians are losing their jobs daily, prices of foodstuffs have gone over the roof and life has become so difficult for the common people. To labour Nigerians with this increment is wickedness taken too far!”

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said; “In 2012 when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan removed fuel subsidy and increased petrol price to N141 per litre, crude oil was selling at $111 per barrel. How then can petrol price be increased to N145 per litre when crude oil is now selling at $40 per barrel?

“It is on record that on May 2 this year, the federal government, in the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) Template released in Abuja, told Nigerians that it was subsidising petrol at N12.62 per litre.

“If as at May 2, petrol was being subsidised at N12.62 per litre, and now that the subsidy of N12.62 has been removed, what ought to have been added to the N86.50 pump price should be N12.62, which would have increased pump price to N99.12 per litre.

“Increasing petrol pump price by N58.50 when the federal government claimed it was subsidising the product at N12.62 per litre is clear political 419, which is aimed at further impoverishing Nigerians as the government will be making profit of N45.88 on each litre of petrol bought by Nigerians.

“How can any government with human feelings attempt to make profit of N45.88 per litre on Nigerians, who are no longer getting their salaries regularly? How can Buhari and his party impose another N45.88 per litre levy on Nigerians who are already facing severe hardship? This is wickedness!”

Speaking further, Governor Fayose said there was no justification for the removal of subsidy and increment of petrol pump price to N145 per litre now that crude oil price is $40 per barrel when the same product was increased to N141 per litre in 2012 when crude oil was $111 per barrel.

While describing President Buhari as a hypocrite, the governor said; “Nigerians should be reminded that the president once said that petrol subsidy never existed and that it was a fraud. How then can the same President Buhari tell us that he has removed the same subsidy he claimed never existed?

“The reality is that these people lied to Nigerians too much. They made promises they knew they won’t fulfil just to get to power. Now they are showing Nigerians their true colours. They are showing Nigerians that they have come to punish them with hardship.

“Buhari and his APC promised to reduce petrol pump price to from N87 to N45 per litre; petrol is now N145. They promised to create three million jobs per year; they have instead created millions of unemployment. They said $1 will be equal to N1; $1 is now N320.

They promised to create better live for Nigerians, they have instead created hardship by making prices of basic commodities to skyrocket through their lack of policy direction.

Apart from being vocal, Onuoha also shared her belief in the power of prayer, stating that she would play her part by praying for the nation.

A lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of keeping his client as a political prisoner. Ifeanyi Ejiofor had at a press briefing said that the presidential media chat held by the presidency last year is a clear indication of his allegations.

Ejiofor advised President Buhari to desist from making pronouncements that may be prejudicial. He also called on the president to steer clear from influencing decisions made by the judges in the court of law. “Nnamdi Kanu is a political prisoner, and this was confirmed in the presidential media chat,” Ejiofor said at the briefing.

“The pronouncements of the president is affecting the decision of the court. We consider the pronouncements prejudicial. “The president should not be making pronouncements that are indirectly influencing the decision of the judges,” he said. But speaking exclusively to NAIJ.com, Ejiofor cautioned the president from making comments on matters that are before the courts.

“A few days ago, when he went to Kastina state, the president also talked on whether Nnamdi Kanu should be granted bail or not, that is suggestive,” Ejiofor told NAIJ.com. “Now let me say this to you, you know by virtue of the highlights and apparent direction in the presidential media chat of December 18, 2015, the comments that so and so person cannot be released on bail because of the fact that he was arrested with two passports.

“So based on that the officers on the matter was indirectly influenced by that pronouncement, in such a way that on the day the ruling was delivered on the application for the bail, the judge made a reference to that fact that he came in with two passports. “Apparently referring to the same direction expressed in the media chat. By virtue of this the president has influenced the decision of the court,” he said. He added that the pronouncement by the president is intentionally engineered towards influencing judgements made by judges on certain matter.

“That is why we say everybody should refrain from commenting on a matter before the court especially someone either in his place or his position, you know he is the commander in chief and once he says certain things, he passes a signal and message to people involved even without a formal directive.

Having submitted to judicial process he should allow them to handle the matter dispassionately,” Kanu’s lawyer said. On the charges dropped by the magistrate court on December 16, 2015 and brought back to the Federal High Court Ejiofor said the federal government is only intent on perpetually incarcerating his client. “Let us understand that the matter is politically influenced.



The charge against him before the magistrate court was dismissed before they were served an order to release him (Kanu) unconditionally and all what not,” he said. “Instead of compiling with the order of the court that he should be released unconditionally, they now added the charge of treasonable felony at the Federal High court to the same charges dismissed by the magistrate court.

“The essence of that is to ensure that he is perpetually kept in custody, and to have a defence not to release him as directed by the court, we will address all these issues,” he added.

Christian leaders in South East has called on Buhari’s led Federal Government to reign on the killer Fulani Herdsmen and bring the evil perpetrators to justice.Speaking today in a peaceful protest rally organized by CAN against the menace of Fulani Herdsmen and related matters, the Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Enugu State Rt. Rev Christian Obiefuna decried the impunity displayed by the rampaging herdsmen and called for an end in their atrocities.

He also condemned in totality the new education syllabus which merged all religious studies as a subject describing it as unacceptable to Christians.

“1.  Beloved brethren and the good people of Enugu State, today, we have stepped out  from our various churches, business, works  and homes to match through the streets of  to express our deep felt grievances and pray against the clear intent of the devil against Enugu State, our Christian faith, our Igbo nation, South East and Nigeria in general.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Enugu State and indeed, South East are protesting today to condemn in its entirety;
The incessant killing, maiming, raping and even destroying all the sources of the livelihood of our people by the Fulani Herdsmen.More than 50 person were murdered in cold blood at Nimbo, Uzo Uwani LGA,

this is just to mention but a few, as everybody reports have shown that our people are being killed, raped, houses and crops destroyed in their numbers by Fulani Herdsmen.
The proposed Bill for grazing reserve for Fulani Herdsmen or in any other form is unacceptable to us. It is purely a private business. Let ranches be encouraged in the North. We urge the Federal Government to renege from passing the bill because from the public outcry, if passed, will be a source of major problem in Nigeria.
The federal government education syllabus which merged all religious studies as a subject is unacceptable by us as Christian religion was adulterated in its content and application. We insist that each faith base should be allowed to teach their believers according to their doctrine. Nigeria is a secular nation and should be so in all intent. Christian religious knowledge should be allowed to be a distinct subject.
The role of some security personnel in Enugu State and South East who have been encouraging those killing, maiming and destroying the lives and properties of our people is condemnable. They should be brought to book. We thank those who are doing the work accordingly, those should be commended.
We want to thank the good people of Enugu State for their continuous prayers, solidarity and brotherhood in this trial period. We must not relent to watch and pray.
Our prayer must be for peace, progress, unity, rule of law, forgiveness and protection. Enugu State must be peaceful, progressive and be protected from any evil .
We must commend the governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Rt. Hon Ifeandyi Ugwuanyi for his stewardship. In this period of crisis, he did not abandon his people. We strongly continue to pray and support him. God must hear our prayers.
Brethren today we are saying that those who are behind the killing of our people in the name of cattle rearing should be brought to book. Impunity must stop in Enugu State, South East and Nigerian in general in any form.
we pray that the reign of President Buhari and his team and the reign of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his team shall bring peace, unity and hope and to the glory of God’s name.
Finally, our peaceful protest rally today is to condemn evil being perpetrated against the Igbo nation, against our people in Enugu, and our Christian faith. We urge all well meaning Nigeria to rise to pray for our country for peace, to pray for our people in Enugu State for consolidation.
The Fulani Herdsmen should stop their impunity and let us live as one Nigeria. Lives cannot be exchanged with cows. Grievances should be treated lawfully. We need peace and such shall reign in Jesus name. Amen.

Stressing that Buhari has so far shown leadership and should be encouraged by all Nigerians, he said: “the only reason on earth I would not contest the presidency in 2019 is because of President Muhammadu Buhari. I believe that President Buhari was called up at a time like this to clean up the mess in the society.
“I have been running for the presidency of this great nation until God said I should settle for the Imo governorship. And that passion to become the president of the country is not just borne out of the thirst for the position, but had arisen out of the eagerness to offer the nation and her people a strong leadership; the essence would be to build a nation of our collective dreams and aspirations.
“President Buhari came in almost one year now and within the one year, Nigeria has once again got the doors of the rest of the world opened for her. He has shown courage, confidence, maturity and strong leadership. There is now high feeling of leadership in the country.
“I am not even judging President Buhari in terms of achievements or general administration, but he is cleaning up the mess of the past administration and to lay a new foundation upon which subsequent administrations of Nigeria would depend upon.
“Anybody judging Buhari from the other side is not being fair to him. That is why I am supporting him and that is why I am with him. After President Buhari, I would be back to the trenches. When I will run for the president, I will not run for it as an Igbo man, but as a Nigerian. I am one Nigerian that is accepted all over this country and I am proud to say so. I am an Igbo man but I was born in the North and my empowerment and wealth came from the West. I cannot afford to be a tribalist. No, I am a complete detribalised man.
“I believe in one enclave called Nigeria and that is my mindset. We must bend down and lay a solid foundation for Nigeria once and for all without sentiments,” Okorocha stated.

The lawmakers, who appreciated the steps so far taken by the Federal Government to contain the problems of herdsmen/farmers clashes in the country, specifically tasked community leaders (including governors) “to be careful when making statements on these ugly incidences.”

Chairman of the Forum, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who read the communiqué at the end of the lawmakers meeting, restated their resolve “to continue their complete support for President Muhammadu Buhari in order to bring about even development to all sections of the country.”

Adamu said that members of the Forum further agreed to work assiduously to enact laws and amend existing ones when and where necessary in order to promote the interest of Northern Nigeria in particular and Nigeria in general.

He added that they noted specially the steps taken by the government to wipe out incidences of insurgency and are hopeful that in no distant time, “we shall say bye-bye to the problem of insurgency.”

On the tagging of every herdsman as Fulani, the Nasarawa-born lawmaker said, “We have tried to kill the idea that every herdsman is Fulani. I am a farmer but I am not Fulani by birth. It is very very wrong to say that everybody you find with a cow is Fulani.”

He recalled that when Chief Olu Falae was kidnapped the news went round that the kidnappers were Fulani, noting that when those responsible for kidnapping the elder statesman were eventually arrested, it was discovered that they were not Fulani.

Adamu, who said he saw a lot of Yoruba cattle rearers when he traveled to the western part of the country, insisted that a cattle rearing is no longer the exclusive preserve of the Fulani.

Noting that there are some groups in the South-East geopolitical zone that have warned Fulani people to leave their part of the country, he declared: “if people from the North say the same thing of people from the south East, we wonder where it will lead the country.”

The Lagos state Police Command has called on those whose relatives are missing to come forward for possible identification of no fewer than 13 people who were reportedly killed in a fire incident at the Lotto area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Punch had earlier reported that a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, went up in flames in Ogun state on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of today at Loto bus-stop, Mowe, area of the state

The tanker belonging to Total Nigeria Plc had skidded off the road in an attempt to avoid crashing into a herd of cows walking on the expressway.

In the process, four of the cows were killed and some of the fuel spilled on the road and into the gutter, before the tanker crashed before it went up in flames.

The herdsmen fled the scene immediately as residents attempted to mob them.

The Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi has confirmed the incident stating that, “The road was soaked with fuel after the tanker fell.

The police and the fire service men were trying to neutralise the power of the petrol when fire broke out. The fire service truck, which was on duty, was the first to be burnt.

Four other persons were injured in the inferno, including an official of the Ogun State Fire Service, identified as Ayodele Adetayo.

The injured victims were said to have been rushed to private hospitals before being transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

Police officers attached to the Redemption Camp division were said to have removed the dead cows, and contacted Total to send another truck for fuel transfer.

Some residents came out and started scooping the fuel spilled into the gutter when a Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, which had a burst tire drove on its rim and ignited a fire.

Fire then engulfed an 18-seater bus driving behind it, two Hilux vans, a Dangote truck and a fire service truck, which was rounding off operation.

The PPRO further added that, “No fewer than 13 people were burnt beyond recognition. About five vehicles were also burnt.

“We urge those whose relatives are missing to come forward for possible identification because for now we cannot recognise anybody,”Adejobi added

Following the incessant killings by the Fulani Herdsmen, a group of Niger Delta agitator, under the aegis of Concerned Militant Leaders (CML), has said it would declare war on Fulani herdsmen after two weeks, if they fail to leave the South-East and South-South states.

The group in a statement made available to Sunnews yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following recent attacks and killings of innocent people, particularly in the South- East.

Spokesperson of the group, simply known as General Ben, demanded that Federal Government should within the 14 days deadline, tell Nigerians who the Fulani herdsmen are, otherwise, the spate of kidnapping and killing of the “so-called herdsmen,” would be unprecedented.

Ben said the group had waited patiently to see Federal Government’s reaction to the gruesome murder of innocent Nigerians, with emphasis on the recent attack on a community in Enugu State, expressing disappointment that government had not demonstrated genuine commitment to checkmate activities of the herdsmen.
He declared: “After two weeks, starting from today, Tuesday, May 3, we are going to search for Fulani herdsmen. Since Federal Government cannot tell us who they are up till now, we are going to look for them.

The CML spokesperson described the attacks as provocative and challenging, threatening that they would take their pound of flesh at the appropriate time.

“The Fulani herdsmen have indirectly challenged us, asking us what can we do. But, we promise them that we will not allow them to go without taking revenge. It is an insult and we will give them back,” he vowed.
